New Jersey Performance Assessment Alliance (NJPAA)
State Mandates the Administration of Biology Prompt
NJPAA was created in 2003 by an alliance including the New Jersey Department of Education, NJPSA, NJASA and a coalition of corporations. The Madison Institute has been a lead consultant for NJPAA since its inception in 2003.
Initially started as a pilot program, the success of NJPAA, which to date has included almost 150 school districts and over 50,000 students state-wide, has prompted the state to mandate the administration of a biology prompt for the 2007-2008 school year.
Entering its fifth year, NJPAA was designed to develop, administer, and score valid and reliable performance based assessments that will complement traditional standardized tests in order to achieve the dual goals of:
- Ensuring accountability for the achievement of all students
- Providing educators with timely and meaningful information that can be used to address the educational needs of individual students.
